Les Fleurs de Printemps

Don't ask why, I just needed to put that title in French. It seemed better that way.

I've been working on all sorts of different projects lately and haven't really had any time to do something just for me. Until I decided to steal a few minutes today to have a play with paint and paper.

Friday I bought an amazing book of plants (mainly flowers) and have spent literally hours going through the pages and wanting to sketch/paint so many of them. Then yesterday we loaded everyone in the car and took a drive across the border to Belgium (where some things are open on Sundays unlike here in France) to check out a pepinière (garden center) that was recommended to me. I love garden centers and came home with a few geraniums to replace those that didn't make it through our move, some grape hyacinth, lavender (again as a replacement), rosemary (for cooking, can't be without it), 2 other random flowering plants the girls selected and a lemon tree that I've been wanting for ages. At the moment, they are cluttered on my kitchen table waiting until I find homes for them or dare risk putting them outside. I have to admit though, I quite like them on my table.

And so here is my inspiration. I still have a few more sketches to paint and I hope to squeeze that in tomorrow among everything else. But I'm pleased with the first results. Now if only the new computer would arrive so I could post something on Etsy....
