Every Friday morning I get such a laugh. Why? Because Friday is the day the garbage gets picked up outside our house. For most people this probably isn't much to laugh at. But in my house, it's worth a good giggle and a big smile.
My 2 year old has become the biggest fan of the garbage collectors. He only needs to hear the squealing of the truck's brakes to come running to the window in order to watch them pick up the bins, set them on the truck and dump their contents. Such excitement! If we are lucky enough to be outside, the men are granted a 10 minute fanclub reunion with Leopold and myself. We watch them as they make their way down the avenue, every so often Leopold letting loose a squeal of utter delight. And as they drive away, he waves his chubby little hand saying "au revoir". I know the men enjoy it as much as I do and they kindly wave back at Leopold.
Having a little boy has opened up a whole new world of appreciation for me. Ponies and hairclips have been replaced my helicopters and cars, anything with a motor. Last week he insisted on slipping on his wellies over his pyjamas in order to accompany his father in mowing the lawn, his father's hand on one side, doudou, his cuddly toy, in the other.
Life's little pleasures indeed!
