I need to vent...

I do usually try to keep my blog pretty upbeat and happy. It's not something I do truly on purpose. I'm just usually a pretty upbeat and happy kind of person.

But not today. Today I'm Gretchen Grumpypants (and thank you to you know who you are for the surname). I think I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but I haven't seemed to be able to snap out of it all day. Nothing really bad has happened. And especially nothing that can't be fixed. But I'm totally annoyed and completely grumpy.

The paint we chose to finish off the living room should have been a lovely creamy white colour. But it's not. It's white. Stark white. So I'm annoyed because I now have a can of paint that I'm now sure how to use and I don't have a colour for my walls. And it's been made worse from...

...the lighting. We've been struggling to find lighting since we moved in and it's not been easy. Honestly, we've been living by a lot of candlelight. But since we set the clocks back and night falls earlier and knowing what short days are ahead of us in the month or so to come, we decided we really needed to get some fixtures. Yesterday we took a trip and found some lights. Hubby specifically wanted a fisherman light. You know, the metal kind that hang down and have naked bulbs. They are lovely in the right setting, but I've always avoided them as I don't like the naked bulb bit. Too blinding to my sensitive eyes.

He caught me in a moment of weakness and I gave in , so up it went today. And when evening fell (which is pretty early around these parts at this time of year), I turned it on. I wanted to cry. I really don't like it. It hurts my eyes.

And to make matters worse, he's purchased energy efficient bulbs. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for them. Except they give off that awful light... bluish neon tinge so everything feels really cold and sterile. Like you're living in a fish tank.

Except our fishtank. Because hubby insists on keeping our fish on the window ledge above the heating and on the southern side of the house. So we think we still have fish, but we can't actually see them anymore due to all the algae growing on the sides of the tank.

But at least they aren't blown away by the lights.

I'm so sorry that your day has been bad. I hope tomorrow will be a better day. Maybe find another room that is better suited for that light. Then you both will be happy.

oh no hugs!

Btw IKEA has energy suffient lamps (so do some other light brands) that are soft and warm colors! like warm beige and such (even softer sometimes then normal lightbulbs)

and maybe use a mat bulb? or paint the glass with matting glase? So the light come through but it isn't clear glass anymore but matte

Good thing is that it was yesterday, Chichi. Today, new day and a new week! Hope you can forget about it quickly! *hug*

aw, new days bring new things, and hopefully today will bring some better ones... perhaps some compromise can be reached on the lights and the paint will find itself feeling creamy in the morning ;)

can you maybe add a small pot of coloured paint to try to add some colour to it?

poor fishies! clean the tank? if the algae doesn't kill the fish the heat from the heater might :/

We all have those kind of days. Cheer is coming your way.

You can take the can of paint to where you bought it and they will add a tint to it. Sometimes for free.

Oy.

Color and lighting are tricky.

Hope you find something you like... quickly!

I hate those low-energy bulbs - i know we should have them in the house but they give off such a weedy, dim, cold pathetic light that each time I try one I have to take it out after a few days.
