We're their role models

...or so we're told.

You know how we're always told as parents that we are our children's best role models? We're meant to equipe them with tools for living. From the very basic (eating with utensils as opposed to our hands) to the more academic (reading is good, reading books is even better, as opposed to the backs of cereal boxes) we strive to give them the tools they will need to make it through life.

But it's not just what we teach them specifically. A lot of what they learn is through imitation. How to walk or how to talk to others are the first two that come to mind.

Now that my girls are getting older, I'm also noticing that they imitate me in other ways. They are always drawing or crafting for example. They wrap long scarves around their necks the way I do. They wear their hair pulled back in a clip like I often do. It's sweet and so endearing. Knowing that they are watching me without my being aware and imitating me as they grow older.

But sometimes it makes me wonder. And worry just a little bit about just how much they actually are imitating me.

Especially at times like this.....

That is hilarious! Imitation is flattery. This is why having kids is great. (not that I do)

I had little cousins who used to look up to me and imitate my mannerisms and clothing. I didn't know it until they got older and told me. It made me feel pretty good.

Very nice, I have a pic like that too. Just wait until you hear your words coming out of their mouths. I am not talkling bad word either, just common phrases you will hear when they are talking on pretend phones. It is great to see yourself through they eyes of your children, Enjoy!

lol :) My niece is starting to really copy her mom's facial expressions. My sis has had to really try to not make a bad face at food she doesn't like our my niece wont eat them :p

Oh my goodness, how funny! I remember when my now 9 year old would don the most preposterous outfit, a newspaper under arm and hide behind the sofa. She'd say she was on the subway on the way to work like me. I worked in fashion in NYC at the time...I was successful at it as well, but somehow I questioned just what *she* thought of my style after seeing that!

Great post!

so cute! my eldest son says he loves that i'm 'an arty mum' - i think secretly he likes it that i'm always covered in paint and different from the other mum's he knows. he'll hate it later, but for now - all is good! They don't copy me much - think that is more of a girl thing - but they all love to draw and paint and i'm proud that they are growing up in a really creative atmosphere - breakfast is difficult as there is a 3ft long papermache fish on our kitchen table!
