My Wee Tea Obsession

Let me start off by saying I've always liked tea. I remember drinking hot cups of tea in the kitchen with my mother. Tea with milk and sugar. It was lovely and sweet.

And then I moved to England and truly began to appreciate tea. It's not a cliché. The English love their tea. Tea shops dot the countryside and department stores, filled with cakes and warm aromas. Even supermarkets offer tea-inspired respite for the weary shopper. Construction workers stop for tea breaks. It truly is an institution.

It's easy to understand how someone could develop a deep love for all things tea given its overwhelming presence in the culture. And so when preparing for our move from England to France, I was taken with a sudden panic: where would I get my tea!? And in what would I drink it?! The French aren't known for their tea.

So among boxes and chaos, I ordered a mix-matched "set" of teacups, saucers and cake plates - trios as they are called. A couple of teapots. A milk jug. A sugar bowl. And a cake plate. Oh, and more than 600 teabags to take with me. But it doesn't seem to be enough as I find myself still scouring sites for different trios to add to my set as well as yearning after a proper china cabinet to show them off.

And I do still need a 3 tier cake stand. Up until today, I hadn't found one that really excited me. Up until today... And then I found EstherCoomb's shop on Etsy and her magnificently imaginative cake stands. I fell in love. They are just gorgeous and so much fun. Just the thing I've been looking for. So I'm now saving up my pennies (or centimes as we say) until I can afford to buy myself a wee pressie to continue my wee obsession...

La mer.... And fishing too!

A new colouring book to add to the Chichiboulie collection this one for boys (or girls) and starring an adorable little fisherman and an even sweeter mini seagull.

I'm so pleased with this one and couldn't wait to share. I think it's because I'm obsessed with all things nautical. I grew up very near to the ocean and it still represents so much to me. I love the sounds, the scents, the textures.

And stripes! I don't think I can pass by something with nautical stripes and not purchase it... A wee weakness I guess you could say. Give me navy blue and white and I'm a happy girl!

I've sold quite a few of these little books which makes me happy as well (almost as happy as navy blue and white). They've been featured on a website as a perfect little wedding favour for your pint-sized guests - just the thing to keep those little hands busy during that special day.

Glorious Gifting!

I thought I should add a little something about the new gift tags in my shop. I added them a few weeks ago, but things have been rather frantic since then and I've not had time to say much about them.

Cupcakes and Kitty Cats for the first 2 sets. Digitially enhanced illustrations from my archives are handcut into gift tags and finished off with satin ribbons. A perfect way to dress up your packages and add a little something extra. They are sold in sets of 6, 2 of each 3 images.

With a little bit of luck, I'll find some time to add some more in this series. Fairies maybe? Or how about something for the boys. I'm adding more to my Nor'Easter (or Sou'Wester depending on which continent you live) collection and I think they would make fabulous tags. So if you like what you see, have a check back in my shop for more. Any suggestions are also welcome!

My Lovely Prize

Here's a big huge THANK YOU to Kissthefrog for the gorgeous print she sent me.

Maria ran a contest from her Etsy shop, www.kissthefrog.etsy.com, and the winner got to choose a print from her shop. To be honest, I think winning the contest was a lot easier than choosing which print to take. She has such lovely items in her shop.

Ultimately I was able to make up my mind and choose this sweet print entitled SISTERS. I think it will look beautiful in my girls' room.

But check out these others and you'll understand the difficulty I faced!

Thank you, Maria. I love my print!

Hooray - Something new for the wee men

Finally! A new set of paintings for the little men in our lives. Or even little girls who prefer animals to fairies.

I've been strapped for time lately (to say the least) and so a lot of things on my list have lingered near the bottom or worse yet, been pushed farther down. But at last I have found time to do this set of paintings. They were a commission for a lovely customer in England and what a treat!

To be honest, I'd never before been excited about painting savanna animals. I often thought I should, but I couldn't build up the enthousiasm for it. And then I did these sketches and it all seemed right! I couldn't wait to get to the paints.

So here they are, the (almost) finished products. I still have some details left to paint, but so far I'm quite pleased with the outcome. Hopefully I'll be able to photograph them and list them soon, before shipping this set off to its new home.

I even took time to take photographs of the paintings in the works..
